Since the launch of the PS4 players have had to have a PlayStation Plus membership in order to play online multiplayer games. Those without the $50 a year subscription have been left in the cold. However, every once in a while Sony will open up the door and let gamers without PS Plus enjoy the frenzy of online multiplayer gaming. This weekend is one of those times, with Sony announcing a PS4 Free Multiplayer Weekend.
The event will start this Friday at 12:01 AM Pacific. After this you will be able to play PS4 games online even without a PS Plus subscription. The promotion won’t last forever though, with the end set for Sunday, February 21st, at 11:59 PM Pacific.
There is a bit of irony in the announcement though, as it is touted as a celebration of the launch of Street Fighter V. That game has had significant server issues since launch though, so many might have trouble playing it this weekend, with or without a PS Plus subscription.
Hopefully the server issues get worked out by then and PS4 gamers can hop onto the game. Either way, all PS4 games will be available, so you can still get in some time with The Last of Us Remastered, Destiny, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and more.
