Today is a very important milestone for the Pokemon franchise, as February 27 is the 20 year anniversary of the release of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan. The seventh generation of games, Sun and Moon, may have been announced yesterday for release later this year, but Pokemon fans have something very special available to them starting today.
As of right now, Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow are all three available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in the US and Europe. Not only are the English versions of these three games available, but you have the choice to purchase the Spanish or French versions as well.
All three games will cost you a little more than the usual Game Boy or Game Boy Color releases on the eShop though, as each one is $9.99. However, when you consider they had to redo the games to allow for Wi-Fi trading and the ability to transfer them to Pokemon Sun and Moon later this year through the Pokemon Bank, it is pretty worth it.
Also, Red and Blue do not have color filters like if they were played on the Game Boy Color, so for those that only played on Color in the past, be forewarned it may look a little different from what you are used to.
If you are going to buy them, you can find them directly on the main page of the eShop right now for easy access. Make sure to let us know in the comments below which version you end up buying, if not all of them.
