Rockstar has been fairly silent on how lenient they were going to be with GTA Online mods up to this point, although that hasn’t stopped anyone from making them already. Finally, the developer has given us more insight on where they stand on the modification of their game and what could result in a ban.
One user reached out to the developer in hopes of an answer and was pleased to receive a reply from Rockstar Support on the subject. The email paints a clearer picture of what is acceptable when it comes to tweaking GTA V’s files. The response given was as follows:
“Cosmetic mods are not a bannable offense. However if you require technical support after installing a mod you will need to uninstall the mod before we can help you with any issue you have, as we do not officially support Mods.”
So it may be safe to run through the streets of Los Santos as a murderous monkey after all. This does leave other popular options, such as FOV tweaks, in a grey area. In fact, players have started coming forward claiming to have been banned for certain mods, of which included FOV alterations. We’ll have to wait for Rockstar to release a more detailed list of bannable offenses before we can confidently venture into the online world with mods enabled.
