Sony has been quiet about anything related to their next generation console, but many expect the company to reveal the PlayStation 4 in 2013. These rumors may have just gotten a load of credibility, if Sony Home Entertainment VP Hiroshi Sakamoto is to be believed. In a recent interview, Sakamoto revealed that Sony may be planning a reveal of the PS4 in 2013, and as soon as May.

In the interview with El Mercurio Online, Sakamoto was asked about the new console, and whether we’d be hearing an announcement in the coming months. His response: “It’s still a big secret, but our Sony PlayStation friends are getting ready. I only can say that we’re focused on the games related E3 event, booked for June. The announcement can take place there or even before, in May.”

A PlayStation 4 announcement in the back-half of 2013 would further cement this as a huge year for PlayStation fans. If this is the home stretch for the PlayStation 3, Sony isn’t letting it go quietly into the night. 2013 will feature some big exclusives on the console, with Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, God of War: Ascension, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time, and a reveal of the new console would just be icing on the cake.

We’ll have to wait until May to see if Sakamoto’s projections turn out to be true, and hopefully, nothing was lost in translation in the Chilean report.
