Sony removes Watch Dogs 1080p/60FPS text from boastful advertisement

An advertisement for Watch Dogs on the PlayStation 4 made big claims about Sony’s version of the upcoming open-world title from Ubisoft.  Originally, the Watch Dogs product page on the PlayStation website boasted that the game had “the best graphics on any console” and that the PS4 could only provide 60 FPS and 1080p.  The wording led many to believe that the PS4 would once again offer the definitive console experience when it comes to Watch Dogs later this month.

Sony has removed the text from their website.  The original text reads:

“The world of Watch_Dogs comes alive on PS4 with the best graphics on any console and exclusive missions found only on PlayStation. Hack everything as you make your way through Chicago’s underground as you experience Watch_Dogs in a way that only PS4 can provide, at 60 Frames Per Second in 1080p.”

The updated text now reads:

“The world of Watch_Dogs comes alive on PS4 with the best graphics on any console and exclusive missions found only on PlayStation.  Hack everything as you make your way through Chicago’s underground as you experience Watch_Dogs in a way that only PS4 can provide.”

It’s hard to tell what exactly happened here, but with Ubisoft having not confirmed the specs for Watch Dogs on the Xbox One, it’s likely that they asked Sony to remove the wording to avoid bad publicity for the Xbox One version of the game.  Then again, maybe, just maybe, Watch Dogs will launch at parity on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.  If that was the case, I’m sure we’d have heard something from Ubisoft at this point though.
