A man asked United if his loose window panel was safe, and the viewer who sent it to her pilot situationship got left on read

A TikTok user who posts as Carl (@carls.inn) tagged United Airlines in a clip of a loose window panel and asked whether it was safe. Since the video went up on it has since passed over two million views.

Recommended Videos

The clip shows a hand pulling the plastic panel around a cabin window away from the wall. A gap opens along the edge, and the window and the outside of the plane are visible through it. On-screen text reads “Ummm @UnitedAirlines is this safe????” and Carl’s caption says “it’s never a good time flying with @United Airlines !!!!”

The video doesn’t show how the panel came loose, and several viewers asked whether he told anyone on board. United hasn’t responded publicly to the video. Plenty of viewers tried to answer his question, but the comment that drew the biggest crowd had little to do with the window.

Viewers wait on a commenter’s pilot situationship

“I’m gonna send this to my situationship whose a pilot,” one viewer wrote, adding that it would give him a reason to talk to her. Hundreds of replies followed asking for updates. Several viewers wrote that her comment had more likes than the video itself.

The commenter later posted, “Guys I got left on opened.” Another viewer said she sent the clip to her own pilot ex, who called the gap “an add-on feature they have for evil women like me to fly through.” A third user wrote that her lunch break was over and asked someone to tell her if the pilot ever replied.

Some viewers say the panel is only cosmetic

Most of the people who answered the question said the plane was fine. Several who said they work in aviation wrote that the loose piece is a plastic cover and that the actual window sits behind it, though a few weren’t convinced.

A commenter who said he was a pilot wrote that the panel is “just cosmetic” and should be glued or taped back on. “It’s entirely for looks,” wrote another, who said she was cabin crew. One person who said they used to install the panels disagreed with both. “no it is not safe,” that commenter wrote. Carl answered with a comment of his own, writing, “YOU GUYS I DIDNT BUILD THIS AIRCRAFT LOL.”

Some viewers wrote that they had United flights coming up, including one with a trip to New York booked for November. Another said the same thing happens on American Airlines. United passengers have posted about cabin conditions before, including one who filmed gunk stuck in a United seat.
