The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Still Coming to Wii U

by Kyle Hanson

Everyone just calm down for a second. Step back, put your Wii Remotes down, it’s all going to be OK. Yes, tonight saw huge hype around the Nintendo Switch, and the show ended with the massive reveal of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as a Nintendo Switch launch title on March 3rd. This might have scared some of you who have been waiting years for it to arrive on Wii U. Well fret no longer, because Nintendo just confirmed that it will also arrive on Wii U on March 3rd.

The question had been raised, often in fact, of whether or not the Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had just been cancelled. Nintendo was adamant that they would make good on their initial promise to deliver the game on the console though, so the rumors and speculation seemed hollow. Still, even if they promised the game would arrive, it didn’t mean it would arrive on the same day as the Nintendo Switch release.

Thankfully, Nintendo doesn’t usually do that to fans. Instead they’re sticking with the formula that worked for Twilight Princess, taking a game and pushing it to the new console, while releasing simultaneously on the old one. This time it’s the Wii U though, which has sold even worse than the underperforming Gamecube. Many expected Nintendo to abandon the console entirely, but it seems like one final hurrah is in order, before putting the Wii U into the closet to collect dust.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild hits Nintendo Switch and Wii U on March 3rd.
