The Nintendo Switch is a unique device from what we have seen so far. We won’t know actual specs of the console yet, but the reception so far has been positive. Even PlayStation’s Boss is happy with what he has seen.
Digital Spy had a chance to interview Shuhei Yoshida who is the President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios. He had kind words to say about the Nintendo Switch, although he’s not worried about them being their next big competition.
He said:Â I think it’s a very unique system. It’s very interesting that they’ve designed the system to work well with more conventional games in terms of inputs and buttons. So I think it’s good for core gamers and their marketing message focused on that.
Digital Spy further asked if Nintendo will be competition in terms of hardware sales. Yoshida said: “I think they’re going to cover a new market for themselves.”
Sony is confident in the video game market so far. The PS4 is the best selling console this generation and the PlayStation VR is the most popular VR headset.
Not to mention it recently released the PS4 Pro that caters to the hardcore gaming market that likes high-end 4K content. Nintendo on the other hand might be going for more casual gamers due to the ease of use of the Switch device. Nintendo just needs to make sure the battery life is great for busy people who are on the move.
The specs of the Nintendo Switch aren’t supposed to match the PS4 Pro, but rumors suggest it could powerful enough as an Xbox One. After all, Skyrim Remastered is expected to be a launch title for the device and third party support is supposed to be much better than it was for the Wii U.
