Sales figures for the Xbox 360 in the month of October suggest that the company had its biggest October on record heading into the holiday season.  The console managed to hold of the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii yet again, holding a 44% share of the overall current generation console market.

The company sold 393K Xbox 360 units in the month of October, and maintains its position as the number one console in the U.S. for 2011.  Microsoft and the Xbox 360 have grabbed more than 40% of the U.S. market share each of the last eight months.

Microsoft points to key exclusives like Gears of War 3 and Forza Motorsport 4 as a driver of this success, as well as a continued interest in the Kinect Motion controller as reasons for the continued momentum for the console.
