UPDATE: Services for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC have been restored. Xbox 360 will be down for a little longer.
Original Story: Xbox Live is down for many gamers right now with sign in issues reported across all Xbox platforms: Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows 10 PC. The trouble started earlier this morning, with Microsoft officially stating that Xbox Live status is limited only a few moments ago. Other services seem to be working fine, with the only one impacted right now being the ability to initiate sign in.
Whether this means all Xbox Live gamers are down, or just those trying to sign in for the first time is not yet known. Outages like this tend to start small and spread a bit before they are cleaned up by Microsoft. The Xbox Live Status page reads: “We are aware that some members may be having problems signing in to Xbox Live. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we will be sure to provide you with frequent updates.”
Xbox Live has had a couple of high profile outages in the past, though so far this one looks relatively small. The service went through some rough times before, with downtime seemingly popping up every couple of weeks. Microsoft made a concerted effort to rectify these problems though, increasing stability in a major way. Since then we’ve seen Xbox Live down instances severely drop off.
Similarly, Sony’s PSN service saw problems in the past before they doubled down on making everything more stable. There have been a couple of PSN outages over the last month or two, but nothing that lasted too long.
We’ll watch for the all clear from Microsoft on this Xbox Live down event, so check back for updates soon. If you are having trouble signing in please shout out in the comments, so others can see where the outage is and who it is affecting.
