XCOM 2 Developer says they “Didn’t Know It Would Be This Way At Launch” and that Fixes are Coming

XCOM 2 is a fantastic game, but it’s a game that runs poorly and can result in a lot of technical glitches and other issues. This simple fact has kept it from achieving its true potential, with many fans complaining endlessly about the many bugs and problems that they are encountering. Patches have been issued, but most of the problems still linger. Firaxis has responded to the community via Rock, Paper, Shotgun, saying that they are working furiously to get an update out soon.

“We take it incredibly seriously,” says XCOM 2 lead designer Jake Solomon. “Me and all the leads, that’s what we work on all day and that’s what we’re committed to right now.” Speaking further with the gaming website Solomon said “I can honestly say that we didn’t know it would be this way at launch,” referring to the many technical issues plaguing the game.

The problem apparently is just how sporadic and random the issues currently are. Many experience framerate stuttering, while others have in-game issues crop up. However, some players encounter no problems at all, playing through the game with no trouble.

“Maybe this is damning on me, but I’m sitting here talking to you (referring to Rock, Paper, Shotgun) now on the laptop I use to play it on,” said Solomon, “and I didn’t see these issues. We didn’t catch this stuff in compatibility testing. We’re fully, fully accountable for the product in people’s hands, so we certainly take responsibility for it. To people who are suffering them, if they’re frustrated, I’m as frustrated and more. We will continue to update the game, and we do have some workarounds but we definitely have fixes coming soon.”
