‘Enough is enough!!!’: Trump banned Israel from bombing Lebanon on Truth Social – Lebanon says Israel didn’t get the memo

Israel doesn’t seem pretty keen on the idea.

President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Israel, banning them from bombing Lebanon. The statement, posted on Truth Social, marks a notable shift from Trump’s usual approach toward Israel, a long-time key ally of the United States. The move has caught the attention of governments and analysts across the region.

According to Reuters, “Israel will not be bombing Lebanon any longer. They are PROHIBITED from doing so by the U.S.A. Enough is enough!!!” Trump wrote in his Truth Social post. The blunt language is a clear departure from the usual tone of U.S. diplomatic statements, and it signals that Washington is growing impatient with the ongoing violence.

The Israel-Lebanon conflict has been going on for several weeks. The situation got worse when Hezbollah fired on northern Israel in support of Iran, and Israel responded with an offensive that Lebanese authorities say has killed 2,000 people. A U.S.-backed ceasefire came into effect on Thursday, but violence has continued on the ground despite the agreement being in place.

Israel is still holding positions in southern Lebanon despite Trump’s public warning

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has not formally responded to Trump’s remarks. Reports indicate that Netanyahu learned of Trump’s ban through social media, just like everyone else, and his reaction drew significant attention. Despite the warning, Netanyahu has said that Israeli forces will remain stationed in southern Lebanon to defend against “the near threat,” a stance that directly conflicts with what Trump publicly declared.

The ceasefire deal itself does not require Israel to pull out of South Lebanon. Israeli defense officials have confirmed that troops are holding positions inside Lebanon as part of a “buffer zone” designed to stop Hezbollah from launching attacks on Israeli territory. This buffer zone has been a contentious issue between the two sides, and it remains unclear whether Trump’s warning will be enough to push Netanyahu into changing his position on the matter.

According to Al Jazeera, Lebanon has already reported ceasefire violations on the ground. The Civil Defense in southern Lebanon said one person was killed when an Israeli drone struck a motorcycle in Beit Yahoun, even after the ceasefire had officially taken effect. This incident makes it clear that the agreement is fragile and that the situation remains dangerous and unpredictable.

Tens of thousands of displaced Lebanese returned to their homes in southern Lebanon shortly after the ceasefire was announced, only to find a deeply heartbreaking situation waiting for them. The U.S.-Israel alliance has been a cornerstone of American foreign policy for decades, but Trump’s actions suggest he is willing to take a harder line when Israeli military activity conflicts with his own priorities.

This is not the first time Trump and Netanyahu have clashed, and the two leaders appear to have different views on how the situation in Lebanon should be handled going forward. Analysts, however, believe Trump’s warning carries real weight and could lead to meaningful change.

Michael Hanna, US program director at the International Crisis Group, pointed to how quickly the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire was reached as clear evidence of Trump’s leverage over Israel. “As with earlier episodes in his second term in Yemen, Iran and Gaza, Trump has demonstrated his ability to bring Israel into line when Israeli policy has threatened his own priorities,” Hanna told Al Jazeera.

Hanna’s comments suggest that Trump has more influence over Israel than many had previously expected. The speed at which the ceasefire deal came together appears to be a direct result of strong U.S. pressure, signaling that Washington is prepared to push back firmly on Israeli military actions when they get in the way of broader American goals in the region. Whether this pressure will hold, and whether Netanyahu will fall in line, remains the central question going forward.
