A mother’s TikTok about a $120 custom Hot Wheels cake has pulled in over two million views, after she accused a baker of missing the pickup for her autistic son’s fifth birthday and producing a cake that barely resembled the theme. The family says it ordered the cake weeks in advance and paid for it in full.
The mom, who posts as @exploringjade, named the business as Cakes by Savannah, as first reported by The Nerd Stash. According to her video, the cake was supposed to be ready for pickup the day before the birthday. The baker reportedly cited a family emergency, and the cake still was not finished on the day of the party.
As Hot Wheels is her son’s special interest, the family sent the baker an inspiration photo and asked for bright colors. The mother claims her husband had to ask repeatedly before the baker texted a picture, which showed a mostly white cake. She also says the baker refused a refund, pointing to ingredients already purchased and her own creative control.
Most viewers think the family deserved the Hot Wheels cake they paid for
Reactions leaned heavily toward the family, as many viewers felt the photo looked nothing like a Hot Wheels design. One of the most liked comments joked that “Walmart has never hurt me like this,” while another user told the mom to report the baker to the Better Business Bureau, leave a Google review and request a chargeback on her card.
Some viewers answered by posting their own cakes. One user shared a similar design she said cost $55, while a home baker offered to make a Hot Wheels cake for free if the family happened to live in Utah. A collector with what he described as more than 10,000 Hot Wheels cars also offered to send the birthday boy a few.
Not every viewer agreed with how the story was told. However, most of the pushback centered on the diagnosis rather than the baker, with one popular comment asking “why does him being autistic have anything to do with a cake??” Parents of neurodivergent kids replied that a promised special interest cake falling through can cause real distress for some children.
The price split the comment section too. One user said $120 “is where you lost me,” suggesting the family should have spotted trouble from the start. However, another argued that the figure was reasonable for a custom cake and that the baker’s service was the real problem. Several viewers simply said a grocery store cake would have done the job.
The mom’s experience struck a chord with people who have watched a custom cake order fall apart right before a celebration, much like a case where a woman’s friend’s birthday cake never arrived. In a follow-up video, the mother accused the baker of posting her husband’s phone number on Facebook, and she says she recorded the post in case it was taken down.
Despite the frustration, the mother said in her original clip that her son was still going to have a great day. She later told commenters the family planned to build its own version of the Hot Wheels cake with a store-bought cake and toy cars, as the custom order never came together in time for the party.
Whether Cakes by Savannah responds publicly or offers a refund remains to be seen, and the mother has not said whether she plans to pursue a chargeback or take the dispute any further.
Attack of the Fanboy was unable to independently verify Cakes by Savannah’s side of the story, as this account originates solely from exploringjade’s TikTok video.
