A woman returned a Starbucks bacon and Gouda sandwich right after getting it from the drive-thru, saying it looked nothing like the menu image. Her TikTok video of the exchange has drawn over 100,000 views.
As reported by BroBible, TikTok user Binkbadd, who has more than 40,000 followers, filmed the moment in her car while speaking to someone on the phone. “This is crazy,” she told them as she revealed three small-to-medium rashers of bacon inside the sandwich.
Binkbadd then returned to the drive-thru window, asked for a refund using Apple Pay, and handed the sandwich back to the server. She went back through the drive-thru afterward and pointed out the sandwich’s image on the menu screen, which showed bacon spilling out from the sides of the bun.
The menu photo was at the center of her complaint
While pointing at the screen, she joked that she had a “hole in [her] stomach where the sandwich was supposed to go.” A worker offered to make her another sandwich, and her friend on the phone laughed, telling her, “You gotta be stopped.” The video ends with Binkbadd receiving her new order and thanking the staff.
In an Instagram message to BroBible, Binkbadd said Starbucks positions itself above fast food chains like McDonald’s and Burger King. “The menu illustrates what appears to be a quality product: Gouda cheese, bacon hanging over the bread and nearly double the price of Burger King and McDonalds, then it delivers a sandwich at almost 2 times the cost much smaller, much different than the illustration,” she said.
She added that most people wouldn’t pay the price if the actual sandwich were shown, and claimed the quality has declined over the years even as the company’s stock price has climbed. Binkbadd said the location she visited provided great service, but argued Starbucks should either lower the price or give customers a product that matches the price point.
Many commenters said Starbucks food always looks like that because it is pre-made. “Obviously you never been to a Starbucks before. Cause they ALL look like that!” one wrote, while another said, “Yeah, everything is from the freezer delivered to the store.”
When one viewer questioned the return, Binkbadd replied, “Honestly what was pictured on their menu looked decent enough to pay $6 for, what I received did not. So I was able to get a refund.” Responding to another commenter who said the food is microwaved, she wrote, “Yeah, but that doesn’t mean the bacon should be 1/4 the size as the picture.”
Binkbadd also answered critics in a series of follow-up TikToks. When one commenter questioned why she compared frozen food to curated images, she asked, “So you’re naming the problem, aware of the problem, defining the fraud, and still defending the multi-billion corporation and chastising me?”
Another commenter, claiming to be a barista, said workers have “no control” over the bacon amount and that the complaints are “very exhausting.” Binkbadd disagreed, saying no one expects baristas to control the bacon size in a pre-made sandwich, but that addressing quality issues by picking another sandwich or offering a refund is what they are “hired to do.”
When a third commenter called the situation “embarrassing,” Binkbadd responded by criticizing what she called the commenter’s “ugly wig” in their profile picture. In another video, she pushed back on a commenter who stressed that the sandwich is pre-made, asking, “So because something comes pre-made, I shouldn’t expect it to look how it looks in the advertised image?”
Beverage blogger Coffee At Three points to Starbucks’ “Barista Promise,” which states, “Love your beverage or let us know. We’ll always make it right.” The blogger notes that baristas usually check that an item was made recently and hasn’t been mostly consumed, and that the policy covers food as well as drinks.
A separate Starbucks refund dispute involved a $4,444 drive-thru coffee charge. BroBible reached out to Starbucks for comment, and Attack of the Fanboy was unable to independently verify the company’s side of the story, as this account originates solely from Binkbadd’s TikTok videos.
