A customer recently claimed he paid $30 for a whiskey sour that tasted like pumpkin spice at the Dizzy Rooster in Austin, but the bar says it does not even stock those ingredients. The man, who goes by the handle @dollar_menu_ on TikTok, posted a video about his experience on Austin’s 6th Street.
He started his video by saying, “So this bar right here charges $30 per drink. Crazy.” He was clearly unhappy with the first drink he received, noting that it had a pumpkin spice flavor he did not enjoy.
The man asked the bartender to remake the drink because he was dissatisfied with the first one. He claimed the second attempt was not much better than the first. Many people in the comment section of his video agreed that $30 for a drink is far too expensive. One person even commented, “Austin is a rip off in every way.”
The bar claims the customer was happy with the second drink
A spokesperson for the Dizzy Rooster reached out to BroBible to clarify the situation and provided details about their pricing and menu. The spokesperson said, “Dizzy Rooster has been a part of the 6th Street entertainment district since 2003, and we’ve always taken pride in treating our customers fairly, offering transparent pricing, and providing a great experience.”
The bar looked into the interaction and noted that the staff remembered the customer. The spokesperson stated, “We looked into this particular interaction with our staff, who remember the customer. At approximately 1:50 a.m., he ordered a double whiskey sour. Contrary to the description in the TikTok, we don’t carry pumpkin spice ingredients or offer a pumpkin spice whiskey sour on our menu.”
According to the bar, the customer was actually happy with the second drink after the bartender remade it. The spokesperson also provided a breakdown of their pricing, explaining that a single whiskey sour costs $13 and a double costs $26, plus sales tax.
This helps explain the $30 charge the customer mentioned, as he had ordered a double. The bar emphasized its commitment to a welcoming environment, adding, “Dizzy Rooster has built its reputation over the years by treating people right and providing a welcoming, enjoyable environment. We take that responsibility seriously and will continue to do so.”
The comments on the video also sparked a debate about cocktail standards. One viewer questioned the choice of drink, writing, “Who t**** orders a whiskey sour at a bar on 6th street in the first place? Also a whiskey sour is properly made with egg white and lemon juice not ‘sour mix’.”
The creator replied by explaining his view on the classic recipe. He said, “Classic whiskey sour is simple. You need bourbon or rye whiskey, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake it with ice, strain, and you’re done.”
