Woman’s insurance ‘skyrocketed’ after she made one mistake following accident, now she’s warning others

Insurance companies love keeping this quiet.

A woman from Florida recently shared advice on TikTok about what to do after a car accident. Her video has gone viral because many people did not know this information. The TikTok user @incasethemayanswe posted her warning last month and made it very clear in her video.

According to Motor1, she says that if you are in a car accident that is not your fault, you should not call your own insurance company. She learned this lesson the hard way and wants others to avoid the same mistake. The woman is 31 years old and only found out about this recently.

She explains that when another driver hits you and causes the accident, you do not need to contact your own insurance to file a claim. Instead, you should call the other driver’s insurance company directly and file the claim with them. This can save you from problems later on.

Her insurance costs went up even though she wasn’t at fault

The woman shared her personal experience to explain why this matters. After an accident that was not her fault, she called her own insurance company to file a claim. She did get paid for the damages, but there was a big problem. Her monthly insurance costs went up significantly and the accident stayed on her insurance record.

When she had another accident more recently, she handled it differently. She called her insurance company first just to ask what she should do. A worker told her to contact the other person’s insurance company instead. She followed this advice and filed the claim with the other driver’s insurer.

This time, things worked out better for her. She got paid for the damages and her insurance rates did not increase. Her warning video has been viewed more than 1.6 million times as of Monday. Many people in the comments thanked her for sharing this information. Car owners dealing with dealership repair disputes and costly mistakes know how important proper documentation is.

However, some viewers pointed out that the situation can be more complicated. Some people said they had to call their own insurance company when the other driver did not provide insurance information at the scene.

Others noted that insurance companies sometimes need to be notified even if you are not at fault. On person advised her to lawyer up, saying: “It’s illegal for your insurance company to raise your bill if it’s not your fault so I would get a lawyer”.

It can be smart to alert your own insurance company so they can help manage communication. The other driver’s insurance company will protect their client’s interests, not yours. Your own insurance company or a lawyer can help protect your claim if there is any dispute about who was at fault later. Just like debates about creative healthcare policy solutions, insurance matters often need careful consideration.
