It was recently revealed that Driveclub developer Evolution was being shut down by Sony, but it looks the developer has been saved. Publisher Codemasters has revealed that they have acquired Evolution Studios, allowing them to continue working on new content with the same team.
The acquisition means that Evolution Studios will now be working on a new racing series for Codemasters, which will be dropping Evolution’s prior exclusive model with Sony and will come to all platforms.
Codemasters CEO, Frank Sagnier, said the following to GamesIndustry.biz: “We want to benefit from everything that they’ve learned as a team together, we want them to create their own games. Of course there will be synergies, of course we will share stuff, but we would like to make sure they retain their identity and stay together as a team to do what they’re good at. What we don’t want to do is bring in a team of 50 people and start having some work on one game and some on another, on existing IP. The whole point is to keep their DNA and build a new game.”
This is a fresh deal so there is no information to share regarding what the new IP from Evolution Studios may be, but it’s great to hear that they were able to grab hold of a great opportunity to continue working together.
