EA has given everyone a glimpse of the sales trajectories they are expecting to see with both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and the future for both consoles definitely looks bright. The company recently released information on their sales for the second quarter of fiscal year 2017, which was followed by a post-earnings call where they answered questions.
One of the biggest questions had to do with what their sales estimates were for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One going forward, and they shared both their trajectories for the consoles for the end of 2016 and the end of 2017. CFO Blake Jorgensen said “Our internal estimate is still roughly 80 million units by the end of calendar year and 100 million units by the end of next year, calendar year.”
He also revealed that the current install base for both platforms combined is 33% higher than it was during this same period for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, he did not divulge how these numbers broke down for each console individually.
What’s most interesting is that they remain uncertain of what impact the PS4 Pro and Xbox One Scorpio will have on Sony and Microsoft’s sales, thus they have no predictions on that front.
