Hideo Kojima has explained in a little more detail how Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is structured.

Kojima revealed some new details on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in episode 26 of his Kojima Station video webcast. Much as it has been known, players can freely roam wherever they want, although things will change when you accept a mission. When you accept a mission, there will be a specific area that you will have to hang around in. If you procrastinate and run away, you will fail the mission.

This might mean you are able to free roam in some of the game locations in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain if you are not doing a mission. It’s possible you can only do this in levels you have already unlocked however. Still, this free roam concept is new to the Metal Gear franchise. A small taste of it was seen with this year’s release of Ground Zeroes.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released sometime in 2015. An exact release date has not been announced, but Kojima promises the game will be out in the year of 2015. Whether it will be in the early or late part of the year remains to be seen. Fingers crossed it’s not delayed until 2016…
