Konami has released their latest financial report, and in it is the news that the Metal Gear Solid series has sold nearly 50 million copies worldwide. The exact numbers are 49.2 million copies worldwide as of March 31st, 2016, so the series is very close to hitting the 50 million mark if it hasn’t already.

Metal Gear Solid was the big game that they focused on, which is probably because they’ve completely shifted gears and are focusing on mobile games and pachinko machines. Despite the fact that they’ve seemed to abandon the series, there’s no questioning that it still sells lots and fans don’t want to see it become nothing more than a pachinko machine.

As for the overall revenue, in the first quarter of this year they reported ¥49.4 billion in revenue ($481 million), whereas the company profit was ¥9.1 billion ($89 million). Revenue from digital sales was ¥25.2 billion ($246 million). Revenue was down 3.5% year-over-year, though company profit was up 40% year-over-year.

Despite the fact that Konami enraged basically their entire fanbase by shunning AAA development for mobile gaming and pachinko machines, they continue to reaffirm that they have not given up on AAA gaming. However, at this point we have no details on any major games that they have in development.
