Konami revealed earlier this year that a new entry in the Metal Gear series would be coming out called Metal Gear Survive, though it would be taking things in a decidedly different direction. The game is a co-op spin-off of the main series that focuses more on survival, which is currently slated to launch next year.
However, as we’re set to be getting our first look at gameplay this Saturday at the Tokyo Game Show, we’re getting a bit more information regarding the development of the game. The biggest news is that the game is in fact being developed by some of the members from the Phantom Pain team, despite this game being very different compared to that one.
For those who don’t know, the game is set in an alternate universe to The Phantom Pain, where a wormhole opens up over Mother Base and absorbs it and all of its soldiers. The wormhole leads the offshore plant and the soldiers to a world that is overrun with hostile monsters that they now have to try and fend off.
While an official release date for Metal Gear Survive has not yet been revealed other than a vague 2017 window, it is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
