Xbox Head, Phil Spencer, has admitted that Microsoft has been working towards Xbox One backwards compatibility for one year now.
Spencer was recently interviewed by Gizmodo Brazil with the topic about backwards compatibility came up.
He said Microsoft have been working on on Xbox One backwards compatibility for “one year“. Microsoft started asking what fans wanted to see on Xbox.com and “backward compatibility was high on the list of requests”
Spencer mentioned finding a solution was difficult at first due to the different architecture on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles. It wasn’t until 8 months in that they found a light on how to make it work.
In the same interview, Spencer repeated previous statements saying that he would like to see original Xbox games playable on Xbox One eventually. However, the most interesting thing he said is “I would love to have the ability to play Xbox 360 on PC“. This will be interesting if Microsoft decides to implement this.
Spencer also said there are a lot of things fans want for future Xbox One features. He said “people fight with me for not having background music (laughs)“. There is a lot of requests coming from gamers and Microsoft has a lot of work to do. Spencer said he welcomes the feedback though.
