Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 took home the “hardware” from the Spike Video Game Awards against a tough field.  The war of words between Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 was decided by critics that voted for the Infinity Ward/ Sledgehammer Games love child to be declared as the top shooter this year.

In the crowded genre, the nominees that Modern Warfare 3 beat out included RAGE, Battlefield 3, and Killzone 3.  Robert Bowling was on hand, alongside Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey to accept the award where they tipped their hats to the competition in their acceptance speech.

Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3  had a tight race this year in critic’s eyes.  On Metacritic, Modern Warfare 3 scored 88 Xbox 360,  88 PlayStation 3,  80 PC .  While Battlefield 3 scored 89 on PC, 84 on Xbox 360, and 85 on PS3.

In our Reader’s Choice Game of the Year Poll, Battlefield 3 holds a slight lead over the Modern Warfare 3 for shooter of the year.
