Nintendo has posted its financial report for Q1 fiscal year 2016 and the results have been positive for both the Wii U and 3DS consoles.
VentureBeat summarized the report and it was good news for Nintendo. From April 1st until June 30th, the company earned $729 million (90 billion yen) in sales. This is up from the from last year.
This is all thanks to the rise in popularity for the Wii U and 3DS consoles. The Wii U has now officially sold over 10 million units. As for the 3DS, that console has sold over 50 million units worldwide so far.
Software sales for the two consoles are even bigger. 61.23 million Wii U games have been sold so far while a huge 233.58 3DS games have sold since launch.
In terms of Nintendo games, the popular franchises ruled. The best selling of them all was Pokemon XY with sales of 13.99 million. This is followed closely by with Pokemon ORAS and its 10.27 million.
Super Smash Bros has done well on both 3DS and Wii U. The 3DS has notched up 7.04 million units while the Wii U version has sold 3.83 million copies so far. Mario Kart 8 has done well too with 3.83 million.
As for new releases, Splatoon did well for a new IP for the Wii U. Sales for that game now stand at 3.83 million units.
Even though Nintendo is talking about the NX console in 2016, it looks like there is still some life yet on the Wii U. As for the 3DS, that console has always been pretty popular after a slightly slow start at the beginning.
