The NPD sales report for 2015 are in and the PS4 was the best selling console not only in December, but the calendar year of 2015 as well.

The PS4 managed to beat out the Xbox One and Wii U to be the best selling video games console in December at American retail stores. The PS4 was also the best seller in November 2015 as well.

The PS4 was not only the best seller in December, but it also garnered the most sales in the calendar year of 2015. It was not just a celebration of Sony’s console either. The Xbox One is selling far better than the Xbox 360 during its first two years.

NPD’s Liam Callahan noted on VentureBeat that cumulative sales of the PS4 and Xbox One have been strong during their first 26 months on sale. The two newer consoles are collectively selling 47 percent better than the total sales of PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles during their first 26 months on store shelves.

This goes to show us that consoles are still popular among gamers. There was speculation that console gaming wouldn’t be so popular this generation. However, these results show us that console gaming is still very popular and will stick around for the foreseeable future.
