Last month, Sega appointed Aaron Webber to manage the social media accounts related to Sonic the Hedgehog. Stepping into the departing Kellie Parker’s shoes, he quickly got to work winning over the internet with his tongue-in-cheek approach to the franchise’s failings. His posts have embodied the same sort of self-depreciating silliness that has made the Sonic Boom cartoons so enjoyable to watch.
Late yesterday, he struck again.
Sonic the Hedgehog has had a lot of friends, sidekicks, and busybodies hovering in his general vicinity throughout his twenty four year career. His pals span a huge variety of anthropomorphic animals, including bipedal echidnas, grossly oversized cats of questionable intellect, and Original the Characters. Still, he’s never had a friend quite like Shia LaBeouf.
Using footage from the now infamous #INTRODUCTIONS video, Webber unveiled an edited version of the scene leading up to the final boss fight in Sonic Generations. While Sonic’s friends tell him and his retro doppleganger not to give up and that they believe in them, their motivational game is a little weak. Shia LaBeouf, however, has got the goods to back up these well meaning platitudes. Screaming at both Sonics to JUST DO IT, he achieves Super Shia through sheer force of will.
Sadly, the video ends before we see him fly into battle and pose his way into Hyper mode.
