Red Dead Redemption was recently made available to play on Xbox One thanks to the backward compatibility program, and it turns out the game is even better on that console than on Xbox 360. This was revealed in a new comparison video by Digital Foundry, showing improved frame rate and the removal of screen tearing.
The improvements are most notable during the game’s cutscenes, which used to drop to 20fps in the Xbox 360 version but remain at 30fps in the Xbox One version. You can check out the comparison video at the bottom of this post.
The improved frame rate is also apparent in busy town sections, where the Xbox One versions still drops frames occasionally but not nearly as often as the Xbox 360 version. They note that there was only one big instance where the Xbox One version dropped to 26fps during a shoot-out on a farm.
This is definitely a great way to get back into Red Dead Redemption after all these years, and if you’ve never played it before then playing it on Xbox One definitely seems like the way to play it. There are rumors that a sequel to the game is in the works, but there has been no official announcement yet.
