We know the PS4 Neo is real, although Sony has not revealed the console yet. We may see it for the first time next month.
This rumor comes from a report via big French gaming website Game Blog. They posted: “While all indications pointed to an announcement of the PS4 NEO at the Tokyo Game Show in September, our sources tell us an announcement on 7 September in New York.”
Game Blog’s sources have broken several other stories in the past so there is a bit of weight to their report. Still, it’s safe to say this is a rumor until Sony officially makes an announcement on it.
The timing of the announcement falls in line with the company’s plan for the new console. Reports suggest Sony wants to release the PS4 Neo to coincide with the PlayStation VR device. PlayStation VR will be out worldwide on October 13th.
If Sony decides to release the Neo in 2016, the company will be one year ahead of Microsoft’s Project Scorpio console. However, sources say that Microsoft’s console will have slightly better specs than the Neo.
You don’t have to worry if you already own a PS4. The PS4 Neo is just an upgrade, but won’t replace existing models. Sony says the original console will be supported in the foreseeable future.
