Now that Star Wars Battlefront has been shipped, some staff members from DICE are now working on Battlefield 5.
Development director at DICE, Dan Vanderlind, tweeted: “Now that we’ve shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield..”
EA has already revealed that there will be a new Battlefield game releasing in 2016. Whether or not it will actually be called Battlefield 5 remains to be seen. It’s safe to assume it will be called Battlefield 5 unless they have some other name in mind.
The series took a little detour in 2015 with the release of Battlefield Hardline. That game didn’t receive rave reviews as it had a cops and robbers skin and didn’t gel well with traditional Battlefield fans.
Even 2013’s Battlefield 4 had a rough start as the online servers were consistently down. The game’s servers improved over time, but it was annoying at the beginning when things weren’t going properly.
It will be interesting to see what route EA and DICE have for Battlefield 5. Activision has done different things with Call of Duty by giving it a futuristic setting. Some fans are hoping Bad Company 3 is announced, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
