The Last Guardian Needs To Sell Well Says Sony

Sony is hoping The Last Guardian sells well for it to be financially successful.

Metro UK had a chance to interview Jim Ryan who is the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Ryan talked a little more about The Last Guardian.

Ryan said he’s a little worried about the financial success for The Last Guardian. This is because Sony didn’t “perform particularly well with either Ico or Shadow Of The Colossus“. Both games were critically acclaimed, but not many people bought them.

Ryan is hoping The Last Guardian becomes profitable. AAA games are risky because the budget is “too big” and the “amounts of money are just too great“.

This may have been a reason why Sony decided until E3 2015 to re-introduce The Last Guardian to gamers again. After many years of silence, the game built up more interest. The game’s announcement was one of the big three reveals from Sony’s E3 2015 presentation.

Hopefully The Last Guardian has built a big enough fan base over the last 5 or 6 years for it to be profitable. There won’t be many PS4 games like it when it comes out sometime next year.

The release date for The Last Guardian has to be a smart one too. If Sony wants it to be successful, it should avoid other AAA games releasing in 2016.
