Despite an overall decline in hardware sales across the industry, Microsoft managed to once again dominate the competition in North America with the Xbox 360. Microsoft sold 203,000 Xbox 360 units in July, the 19th consecutive month that the company has beaten Nintendo and Sony.
Microsoft also captured more than 40% of the total market spending in July, according to NPD data, this is the 17th month that Microsoft has claimed this title as well. While it’s not quite great news for the industry at large, Microsoft has proved its dominance in the North American market.
Nintendo however saw some improvements on a year over year basis with the 3DS handheld. The 3DS hardware was the only device to see year on year growth from the previous time period one year ago.
Software sales in the industry were down as well. EA Sports NCAA Football 13 was the top selling game, followed by Lego Batman, and The Amazing Spiderman.
