We’re only a few days into the new year, but it seems it’s already time for game delays. The first up is Platinum Games’ epic action RPG Scalebound, which has been pushed back from a 2016 release all the way to next year. The game still remains an Xbox One exclusive, but it will be release in 2017 now.
“As we enter into 2016, we want to provide you with an update on Scalebound, the upcoming Xbox One-exclusive action-RPG that lets you fight alongside a fearsome dragon named Thuban,” reads the announcement.
“Development on the game is going well and we’re really happy with how it’s coming together. Scalebound is one of the biggest games PlatinumGames has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale – all set in a beautiful and evolving world. It’s the game our team has always dreamed of making.”
The team then goes on to discuss the delay, and the reasons for it. “In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned. We know you’re excited to see more and thank you for your patience. Scalebound is a truly special project that’s been several years in the making, and we are very proud and inspired by all the work our team has done so far.”
It’s interesting to see a delay come this far in advance of the eventual release date. Scalebound was most likely going to hit in the 2016 holiday season, so this news comes months ahead of the planned release date. It seems that Platinum knows what type of game they want to make, and just how much time they need to accomplish the task. It is always tough to wait longer for great looking games, but it seems that the developer has the best interests of their audience at heart.
