Blizzard has actively tuned Diablo III since its May launch with numerous updates and features. Â Today in their quarterly conference call, Activision/Blizzard also announced that they do indeed have plans to expand on the Diablo III universe in the future.
“We do have an expansion plan for Diablo,” said Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime. Â “I don’t have any timeline to talk about. Â I think that the most important thing for us comes down to the quality of the expansion, of gameplay. Â That will be a big factor in terms of driving our schedule.”
For reference, Diablo 2 saw an expansion released roughly one year after that game shipped, but this is likely a very different story for Diablo III. Â An extended development cycle, and some fan outcry about the sequel may cause Blizzard to take extra care in crafting any expansion content for the game.
Despite a vocal minority of the Diablo III fanbase that have denounced the game since launch, the game has been a big breadwinner for Activision. Â The company said that Diablo III crossed the ten million sold mark in the most recent quarter.
