Former NBA player Kyle Singler was arrested in Oklahoma on Tuesday after police say he attacked his girlfriend while their young child watched. The 37-year-old who once played for Duke was taken to Haskell County Jail and charged with assault and battery in the presence of a child. This happened in a town called Whitefield.
According to Fox News, someone saw Singler running after a woman outside a house and called 911. Police say the former Oklahoma City Thunder player grabbed his girlfriend by the head and pushed her down to the ground. Their young child saw everything that happened.
When Deputy Mitch Dobbs got there, he saw finger marks on the woman’s face and bruises on her arms. What the deputy found on his girlfriend painted a troubling picture of what went down. The woman told the deputy that Singler is her child’s father and that their kid was right there when it all happened.
This is really troubling considering his past
Police said Singler would not work with them when they tried to arrest him. They also said he seemed to be on drugs. He got out of jail after paying $6,000 in bond money. His old agent told the press that he does not work with Singler anymore.
Singler had a good basketball career at Duke. He helped the Blue Devils win the national championship in 2010 and got named the tournament’s MVP. The Detroit Pistons picked him in the second round of the 2011 draft.
He played there for a few years before moving to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2014. Sports stars getting into legal trouble is not uncommon, as seen when a former F1 driver recently took motorsport’s governing body to court over championship controversy.
This arrest comes about a year after Singler put up some scary posts on social media. He put up a video where he had no shirt on and talked about being afraid. He said people had treated him badly and that he worried about his safety every day. He also said people in his town made him look like he was going to cause problems when he just wanted to help.
A lot of NBA players saw that video and said they were worried about him. People wondered what was going on in his life and if he was okay. Now he is facing criminal charges that could change his whole future. Athletes making headlines for the wrong reasons have been a recurring theme lately, including when Vinicius Jr. apologized to Real Madrid fans but left out a key person from his apology.
