‘Maybe don’t trust your Apple alarm’: Woman reveals why she missed her flight and iPhone users are saying they’ve been dealing with the same problem

This iPhone bug ruined her trip.

If you use your iPhone alarm to wake up, you might need a backup plan. Many users say their Apple alarms are going off without making any sound. This problem has caused people to miss flights and job interviews.

According to Bro Bible, Brett Chody recently went viral on TikTok after she missed her flight to Chicago because of this issue. She woke up on her own at 6:30 AM and saw a notification that her alarm had been going off for two and a half hours. But she never heard anything. It was “dead silent,” she said.

When Chody shared her story on Instagram, she found out many others had the same problem. She said around 100 people or more messaged her with similar experiences. People missed exams, work shifts, and even their first day at new jobs because their alarms didn’t make noise. Chody’s advice is simple: if you have an iPhone, “maybe don’t trust your Apple alarm.”

Apple knew about this problem over a year ago

This isn’t a new bug. Apple reportedly knew about this issue back in April 2024 and said they were working on a fix. But more than a year later, the problem is still happening and users are frustrated.

Comments on Chody’s post show how common this issue is. One user said: “this has happened to me so much I bought a physical alarm clock and now use alarmy app!! it happened for months to me.” Another disgruntled user wrote: “I LITERALLY POSTED ON REDDIT TO ASK IF THIS IS HAPPENING TO ANYONE BECAUSE EVERYDAY I CHANGE THE VOLUME IT GOES BACK DOWN.”

The good news is there are two settings that might be causing this, and you can fix them now. The first fix is simple but easy to overlook. Check your alert volume in Settings under “Ringtone and Alerts.” Make sure the volume slider is all the way up. Also turn off the “Change with Buttons” option so you don’t accidentally lower the alarm volume. This issue adds to growing concerns about how hackers access user data from tech companies.

The second problem is a feature called “Attention Aware Features.” This setting detects if you’re looking at your device and adjusts things like screen brightness. But it also lowers alert volumes if it thinks you’re paying attention to your phone. If you fall asleep watching videos, your iPhone might think you’re still using it and lower your alarm volume.

You should check both settings right away if you rely on your iPhone alarm for work or school. Don’t let a quiet setting make you miss something important. While Apple works on software fixes, rumors suggest major design changes coming to iPhones that could transform future devices.
