A Fox News contributor shared some questionable theories on Friday about President Donald Trump and his falling approval ratings. Kaylee McGhee White said the ratings are low because of Democrats and because Trump has set the bar too high for himself.
According to HuffPost, White appeared on The Five during a segment called Dems Scramble To Find Their Trump. Fox News contributor Charlie Hurt said Republicans are very united around President Trump. He added that there are real questions about who will take over from him after the midterms.
White then said Trump “has an 87% approval rating among Republicans,” though she didn’t say which poll this came from. She argued that Democrats don’t have a clear vision or a next-generation leader to step in and take charge.
White claims Trump’s past wins have hurt his current ratings
White said this is the main reason “we hear a lot about how Trump’s approval ratings are cratering.” She then made a strange point that the president’s own past successes have made people less excited about him now.
“I think in some ways Trump is a victim of his own success, in that voters expect a lot from him because they know that he can deliver on it,” White said. She listed what she called his biggest policy wins from the past year, including eliminating Iran’s nuclear abilities, cracking down on the southern border, basically stopping illegal immigration, and keeping women’s spaces for women.
White claimed Trump has overwhelming support from 80% to 90% of Americans on these key issues. The Trump administration has been active on multiple fronts, from executing military strikes against ISIS to policy changes that critics say could harm conservation efforts.
However, a Gallup poll from earlier this week showed Trump’s overall approval among U.S. adults is only 36%. The poll did show that 89% of Republicans approve of his job performance. Trump’s lowest approval rating of 34% came in 2021, right after the January 6 Capitol riots.
He won last year’s election by promising to fix the economy after high inflation under former President Joe Biden. Inflation has continued under Trump despite his claims otherwise, and his tariffs have raised costs for everyday Americans. The administration has also proposed new rules affecting endangered species protections that environmental groups oppose.
Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly warned the administration in November that they “better get something going” on affordability or risk losing the 2026 midterms. Days later, Trump called himself “THE AFFORDABILITY PRESIDENT” on social media.
