Nearly 400,000 fans sign petition demanding Netflix release ‘missing’ Stranger Things footage, the Duffer Brothers just broke their silence

Another Synder Cut campaign?

After Stranger Things ended on New Year’s Day, fans of the Netflix show started a petition that has now been signed by more than 380,000 people. The petition claims that Netflix and the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, cut out important scenes from the final episode that could have changed the story for several characters.

According to Unilad, the petition asks Netflix to release a “full uncut” version of the series finale. It came after a Google Doc started spreading online, listing all the scenes that were supposedly filmed but then removed. The document claims there were several cut scenes showing Will and Mike talking after Will’s coming out moment.

However, the Duffer Brothers have since responded to the controversy, stating that the claims of missing scenes are entirely false. In interviews and social media posts, they emphasised that the finale was complete as intended, and that no significant footage affecting the story’s outcome was removed.

The creators confirmed no scenes were actually cut

Matt Duffer told reporters that someone sent him the Google Doc. He said, “Someone sent it to us, yeah. Obviously, that’s not a real thing.”. His brother Ross Duffer added that he hasn’t seen the petition, but made it clear there isn’t “a single cut scene in the entire season.”

Matt explained that because the show has become so huge, there’s a lot of false information spreading online. He said they could spend hours trying to correct everything that isn’t true. But in the end, he hopes the show speaks for itself. The show’s star Millie Bobby Brown has also faced attention recently for her responses at public events.

The Duffer Brothers created the show they wanted to make, and Netflix supported them completely. Matt said Netflix has been amazing from the very first season and has never interfered with their creative decisions. The streaming service has always trusted them to make the show their way.

“Netflix was, and has always been, incredible. I mean, there’s no interference or direction at all from them on us. They really trust us, and that’s been true from Season 1 on. It’s never changed, even though the show and the size of the audience have grown,” Matt said.

Even though the show and its audience have grown massively over the years, Netflix’s support has never changed. The finale that aired is exactly what the Duffer Brothers intended, with no missing scenes or hidden footage. While fans debate what could have been, viral moments continue capturing people’s reactions to unexpected situations online.
