Georgia teacher was killed in crash, but the driver who struck her was only speeding away because of one chilling order

Another innocent life lost.

A special education teacher in Georgia was tragically killed after her car was struck by a driver who was desperately fleeing federal immigration agents following a targeted operation, as reported by The Hill. Linda Davis, who was a beloved teacher at a local school in Savannah, Georgia, was pronounced dead after the horrific crash.

Police say her vehicle was hit by 38-year-old Oscar Vasquez Lopez, who was attempting to get away from federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers just before 8:00 AM. This vehicular homicide has resulted in severe charges for Vasquez Lopez. Local police confirmed he faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic light, and driving without a valid license.

Federal officials characterized the moment of impact as occurring after Vasquez Lopez ran a red light and made a “reckless U-turn.” He was eventually taken into custody by the Chatham County Police Department at a local hospital, where he was being treated for minor injuries. Police were clear that their department officers weren’t involved in the initial enforcement operation or the pursuit itself; they only became involved after the crash took place.

This is another tragic incident that DHS can’t wash its hands of

Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed that Vasquez Lopez, a Guatemalan national, had previously received a final order to leave the United States from a federal judge in 2024. He had entered the country illegally at an unknown time, and federal officers were attempting to arrest him during a targeted operation. The enforcement operation began when officers spotted Vasquez Lopez entering a vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. While he initially complied, he quickly sped away.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin of the Department of Homeland Security released a statement regarding the incident, emphasizing the dangers inherent in resisting federal law enforcement. She stated that this vehicular homicide is “an absolute tragedy and deadly consequence of politicians and the media constantly demonizing ICE officers and encouraging those here illegally to resist arrest—a felony.”

McLaughlin added that these dangerous tactics are absolutely putting people’s lives at risk. “Fleeing from and resisting federal law enforcement is not only a crime but extraordinarily dangerous and puts oneself, our officers, and innocent civilians at risk,” she said.

It’s hard to argue with that statement when you see an innocent bystander has lost their life simply because someone wouldn’t comply with a lawful order. Vasquez Lopez was booked into a local jail Monday.
