Shocking footage shows a deputy striking a student athlete with a Taser but the reason he gave for the outburst is even more unhinged

A high school resource officer is currently under investigation in South Carolina after shocking footage surfaced, showing him allegedly striking a young baseball player over the head with his taser. This truly wild incident is believed to have happened earlier this week following Pee Dee Academy’s 7-0 victory against Lee Academy in Mullins, Marion County.

The video, which has since gone viral on X and other social media platforms, shows the officer holding his taser in his right hand. His left arm is wrapped around the neck of the player, who appears to be named Andrew, in a chokehold. You can then see the officer angrily use his taser to strike the youngster around the side of his head. The player looks visibly shaken afterward, wincing due to the pain, another instance of a cop taking it too far, much like a veteran coach being placed in handcuffs.

What makes this situation even more unbelievable is the officer’s explanation for his outburst. According to Daily Mail, he claims he only lashed out because the player was continuously standing on his foot with his cleats. Seriously, that’s the reason given for such a violent reaction. It’s a pretty unhinged justification for using a taser on a student.

All this over someone stepping on your foot?

A group of angry parents surrounded the officer and player, reacting furiously to the violent strike. You can hear one parent shouting, “What the f***’s wrong with you?” Another parent can be heard warning the officer, “You gonna lose your pension over that one, homie.” It’s clear they were absolutely livid about what they witnessed.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is taking this seriously. Tammy Ervin, a representative for the Sheriff’s Office, confirmed, “We’ve turned the matter over to the State Law Enforcement Division for investigation.” She also stated, “The deputy in question has been reassigned pending SLED’s investigation.” This is definitely the right move, you’d expect nothing less in a situation like this.

As the chaotic scene unfolds in the footage, parents can be heard urging the terrified player to get down on his knees, likely to prevent any further escalation or injury. The officer then asks, “Where is the other fella at?” Shortly after, a man in handcuffs walks in front of the camera, though it’s still unclear why he was being detained or what his role was in the overall situation.

While the video captures the shocking taser strike, the exact trigger for the entire confrontation remains a bit hazy. One adult, standing off to the side, appears to suggest that a parent had threatened to strike the officer earlier.

Regardless of what sparked the initial tension, the officer’s response with a taser seems like a massive overreaction that’s now landed him in some serious trouble.
