Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called the Pentagon’s release of documents related to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) and UFOs “shiny object propaganda” as the Trump administration wages “foreign wars,” The Hill reported. The Pentagon released 162 files earlier Friday morning amid President Trump’s push for greater transparency on the issue. The Defense Department shared a new webpage, war.gov/UFO, for the public to visit and access documents as they are released.
Greene, a former Trump ally, said she “really” does not “care about the UFO files.” She took to X to voice her frustration, making it clear that she thinks there are much bigger fish to fry. “I’m so sick of the ‘look at the shiny object’ propaganda while they wage foreign wars, let rapist and pedophiles run free, and ruin the value of our dollar. Unless they roll out live aliens and test demo UFOs or actually admit what we know this really is then I have way better things to do on this Friday.”
The Georgia Republican also blasted the administration in a separate X post less than an hour later, which she ended with “Happy Friday everyone!” In that post, she didn’t pull any punches regarding the timing of the release. “The most transparent administration in history still hasn’t released all the Epstein files or arrested anyone, but rolled out some UFO files today so you would get so excited that you forgot you are paying over $4.50/gallon because they are fighting another foreign war they said they would no longer fight,” Greene wrote.
Greene’s comments point toward the administration’s handling of files connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein
Greene was among the few House Republicans who backed a vote to compel the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release its documents on the disgraced financier. The DOJ conducted a slow rollout of the files, starting on the date that all of the documents were expected to drop as required under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Files were released over the next month with many heavily redacted. Her second post also referred to the U.S.-Israeli conflict in Iran, which has caused gas prices to skyrocket over the last two months since the conflict began.
Despite the criticism, the administration is moving forward with its transparency initiative. Trump previously ordered the Defense Department and other government agencies and departments to review their information on UAPs and extraterrestrial life before releasing the information to the public. Given the scope of reviewing “tens of millions” of records, the Pentagon stated it would release new materials “on a rolling basis as they are discovered and declassified, with tranches posted every few weeks.”
The webpage, war.gov/UFO, is designed to resemble technical readouts, featuring several photos and composite images that you can scroll through. The files include an interactive chart with 162 files, providing a digital image, incident data, description, and information on which government agency has ownership of the file.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a statement that “these files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves.” He added that the release demonstrates the administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.
However, the Pentagon also noted that the materials archived here are unresolved cases. This means the government is unable to make a definitive determination on the nature of the observed phenomena, which is pretty in line with Neil deGrasse Tyson’s prediction about the UFO files. Defense officials justified the lack of explanation is due to a “variety of reasons,” including lacking sufficient data.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman praised the administration’s push for transparency but noted that the space agency “will remain candid about what we know to be true, what we have yet to understand, and all that remains to be discovered.” He also posted to X that “exploration and the pursuit of knowledge are core to NASA’s mission as we endeavor to unlock the secrets of the universe.”
President Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said it was his honor to direct the administration to release the files. “Whereas previous Administrations have failed to be transparent on this subject, with these new Documents and Videos, the people can decide for themselves, “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?” Have Fun and Enjoy!” Trump wrote.
