A South Carolina couple with a 34-year age gap is pushing back against online criticism over the specific, non-negotiable rules they have established for their marriage. As detailed by LADbible, Gracen Greagan, 26, and Kevin Greagan, 60, who married in November 2025, have been sharing details about their life together on their TikTok page, @gracenfaithg. The pair first connected four and a half years ago at a steakhouse in Greenville, where Gracen worked.
After she took an interest in Kevin’s children, Kevin began visiting the restaurant more frequently on his own, and the two eventually decided to pursue a relationship. The conversation around their marriage gained traction after they posted a video discussing their relationship standards, which include a commitment to pray together every night and a rule that neither will drink alcohol without the other present.
As Kevin explained in the video, “There’s a vulnerability in drinking and being intoxicated, and that’s not something I wanna be without my partner present.” He framed these standards as a source of clarity rather than restriction. “The bottom line, I think people hear ‘rules’ and they think ‘control’. We hear ‘clarity’ and we think ‘alignment’,” he added.
The couple says critics are misreading what they actually do
Gracen was quick to address viewers who found the boundaries overly strict, noting they never actually used the word “rules” to describe their habits. “Nobody told us to do that or forced us to. That’s just what we chose,” she said. The couple emphasized that while this dynamic works for them, they understand it is not for everyone.
The internet reaction has been mixed. Some users expressed discomfort with the idea of declining social opportunities because of a partner’s preference, with one commenter writing, “I love having a glass of wine with my close girlfriends. I couldn’t imagine having to decline because I won’t drink without my husband.” Another pointed to the age difference, noting, “I can’t imagine me in my 30s thinking my soulmate isn’t even born yet.” Other followers found the arrangement a positive sign of mutual respect, with one user commenting, “I don’t ever drink without my husband. Why would I? I agree. And I’m safe with him!!”
The couple’s TikTok presence has drawn the kind of polarized response seen across viral relationship content, amid a broader wave of social media debates over a viral steak order dispute. Relationship expert Beck Thompson, head coach at the Relationship Circle, noted that the core practices themselves are not necessarily problematic and are things she often encourages in her own clients.
However, she said the framing changes the dynamic: “The moment you call something a ‘non-negotiable rule’ in a relationship, it shifts the tone from connection to compliance.” She also pointed out that healthy couples often arrive at these agreements naturally rather than announcing them as a formal contract.
As noted by Psychology Today, scientific research offers some context on how age-gap relationships function. A 2022 study analyzing data from 130 countries found that the worldwide average age gap in heterosexual relationships is 4.2 years, with the figure sitting at just 2.2 years in North America, compared to as high as 14.8 years in some regions. A 2025 study found that men in heterosexual relationships who date women at least seven years younger report higher overall satisfaction, and younger women dating older men often report higher perceptions of financial stability.
Gracen’s response to the online pushback was straightforward. “It’s not for everybody, but it works for us. So you do you, we’ll do us,” she said, amid Instagram’s ongoing follower count shifts that have kept social media metrics in the spotlight this week.
