Sony didn’t spend the last couple of years building up the PlayStation Plus service only to abandon it with the PS4. In fact, Sony has big plans for the PlayStation Plus service, though they aren’t ready to give specifics just yet.
In a recent interview, Sony’s Jim Ryan of SCEE says that the subscription service which offers waves of free content and discounts on items in the PlayStation Store, will play a “prominent role” going forward for the company.
“We’re not yet in a position to disclose our plans for the future of PlayStation Plus, but there will definitely be a prominent role to play for it in the PlayStation 4 landscape,” Ryan noted on the PlayStation Blog.
As for the recent boost in popularity of the subscription based service, Ryan says that Sony is happy with the service and PlayStation gamers are beginning to see the value it has. The CEO says that subscriptions have trebled in the last year alone.
