Battlefield 4 to utilize Kinect for XB1

While DICE had indicated in the past that they were looking into using Kinect as a way of enhancing “the Battlefield experience”, there was no concrete evidence that it would come into fruition until now.

According to Polygon, at a recent Xbox One showcasing, EA showcased the Kinect at work head-tracking in conjunction with Battlefield 4. As the Kinect tracked the players’ head, this in turn was showcased into the game, where it was used for mechanics such as leaning and peeking around corners.

While leaning and peeking are rather subtle, they can still add to the game, as beforehand a player had to expose his/her whole body to check around a corner, and now only a portion (roughly one-half) will be exposed through leaning and peeking.

Kinect integration also supports squad voice commands, meaning the player can call for ammo, a med kit, to cancel a request, to call for a ride or to even thank a player who helped him/her.

This also comes in the heels of a recent patch DICE released today that is supposed to fix the majority of server issues that have plagued PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users since its release last week. Here are the official patch notes:

– Fixed two of the most common server crashes (All platforms)
– The “admin.say” command should now work properly (PC)
– The “vars.preset” command should now work better in conjunction with other vars settings (PC) (It is now easier for server admins to set a server preset)
– Fixed a bug in the queue system regarding GUID (PC)
– Fixed various minor bugs (PC)
