Sales of the Xbox One are on the uptick, according to Microsoft. Â The company revealed that the June figures for Xbox One sales doubled over May, in a month which saw Microsoft effectively slash the price of the console by $100 by unbundling the Kinect.
A post on the Xbox Wire attributes both the price cut of the Xbox One and the holiday lineup of games revealed at E3 2014 as the main drivers for the sales spike. Â The numbers Microsoft cites are based on “internal data based on retail calendar and sold through numbers.”
A spike in sales should have been expected, purely on the console costing less. Â It’s true that Microsoft did have a promising E3 showcase, as well. Â Heading to the Xbox One this holiday season are first party games like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, The Halo 5 Beta, Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Ori and the Blind Forest, a Fable beta, and more.
The announcement from Microsoft comes ahead of NPD data for June. Â The official North American retail sales figures will be out on Thursday July 17th, and we’ll find out if Microsoft managed to jump ahead of Sony for the month, or whether they fall behind for yet another month.
Look for the July NPD report later this week.
