Star Wars: Battlefront has been one of the most talked about games ever since its reveal at E3 2013, albeit with very little info known, so any information that we can obtain about the game is very important. The latest news courtesy of EA tells us when we might finally be able to get our hands on this highly anticipated game.
During EA’s stockholder meeting, chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen revealed that they are aiming for a Summer 2015 release for Star Wars: Battlefront. This comes as a little bit of a surprise, especially considering Star Wars Episode VII is set to release Christmas 2015. Oddly enough, Jorgensen mentioned this by saying that the game “will most likely come out around the same time that the Star Wars [sequel] movies start to come out, probably in the summer of ’15.” However, this would be months before the release of the actual movie.
EA Executive Vice President Patrick Soderland also explained how the game won’t involve the plot of Episode VII at all.
- “What we’re building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made. And that’s just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars. Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn’t say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn’t say that we’re directly tied to it.”
Hearing this, it makes a little more sense to spread the two apart by a few months and putting Star Wars: Battlefront out in the summer period, where we see very few major releases, could be very good for the sales of the game.
