NPD Results are in for October, and Sony’s PlayStation 4 continues to be the top-selling console in North America. Â October marks the one year anniversary for both consoles having launched, and analysts suggest that it’s been a great year for both next-gen systems.
PS4 is the top-selling console in October, NBA 2K15 top game
While PlayStation 4 is the top-selling console in October, NPD’s Liam Callahan reveals that sales for the PS4 and Xbox One are 70% higher than they were for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in their first years.  Also, sales in October for hardware were up significantly year over year.
October did however see a decline in software sales, which is assumed to be a result of the declines of last-gen console software purchases. Â NBA 2K15 was the top-selling game in the NPD Top 10, outselling the likes of Super Smash Bros on 3DS, The Evil Within, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
The rise in hardware sales did offset the decline in physical software sales to buoy industry figures.
Microsoft is still looking to surpass the PS4 in terms of North American sales. Â The PS4 has outsold the Xbox One consistently in 2014, though Microsoft recently made comments that the Xbox One has outsold the PS4 following price-drop and bundling initiatives that were recently implemented.
