After recently leaving Cloud Imperium Games, the company behind the most crowd funded video game in history Star Citizen, Eric “Wingman” Peterson is back, with Descendent Studios, attempting to bring back six-degrees-of-freedom combat in the form of Descent: Underground.
The original Descent game was released 20 years ago this year and was available on PC. It captured the hearts of many gamers of the time by offering action like nothing before it. The game gained an almost cult status due to the death-defying stunts that players could pull off whilst trying to survive in network battles.
Descent: Underground aims to bring back the game series with a 21st century upgrade utilizing the power of today’s powerful graphics cards and CPUs. Billed as a PC game Descent: Underground if funded will feature “multiple types of customizable ships, upgradable weapons and sensors with richly-detailed tech trees, destructible voxel maps with new power-ups and mod tools to make your own maps and more!”
Despite having 29 days to go the campaign has already received a lot of backing. Over 2000 backers have pledged money towards the campaign raising close to $160,000 of the $600,000 funding goal. The title has also seen help from Kickstarter itself with the game being made a Staff Pick.
