Spiritual Successor to Ragnarok Online, Tree of Savior, Greenlit

Every few years, the urge to play Ragnarok Online hits. If you asked me why I wanted to play so badly, it’d be difficult to get an answer. Only after several days of clicking on disgruntled beachside seals and muttering about cards would I even register that a question had been asked. Ask any recovering fan of the super popular Korean MMORPG and you’re likely to get a similar reaction.

This is why Tree of Savior looks so dang exciting.

Created by imcGAMES, Tree of Savior promises 80 unique classes and a distinct style, in spite of its charmingly familiar look and feel. An English release version was Greenlit on Steam the same day it was submitted, which is an indication that I’m not the only one who still has a Pavlovian response to sell things up on hearing the theme music for Prontera. Fans were initially confused about who exactly made the submission to Steam, but this was cleared up in a post on the incGAMES blog.

Of particular interest is that incGAMES is looking to partially crowdsource a quality English translation. In what seems to be a cost-saving move, incGAMES is offering up a barebones translation of the game and giving beta testers the power to correct any language that comes across as awkward or seems inaccurate.

Currently, there’s no word on when English beta tests will commence. Hopefully, clunky language like this will be polished out by the time for release — or at least replaced with a string of obscenities, if incGAMES doesn’t have strict quality control protocols.
