Dragon Ball Z has been relevant for a long time, but it did admittedly die down in popularity for awhile after the conclusion of the series in the US. GT wasn’t that well received by many and the live action movie was a disaster critically and in the box office. We’ve had games to keep the franchise going and even the remastered Dragon Ball Z Kai, but the recent movie releases really led to the resurgence of the series. This level of success all culminated in the very recent announcement of a brand new anime series titled Dragon Ball Super, which we now know will have a companion manga as well.
According to Anime News Network, the latest issue of Shueisha’s V Jump will reveal that Dragon Ball Super is getting a manga adaptation alongside it as well. The manga is said to be coming from Toyotarō, though it is written by Akira Toriyama. Toyotarō recently drew the manga adaptation of the latest movie, so he has worked on the property very recently.
Toyotarō even says that the manga and anime will “no doubt exceed everyone’s expectations,” increasing the level of hype for this series even further. The manga will be launching in V Jump this coming August, so more information will likely be coming out in the months leading up to that release.
