On Friday night, the 30 day Kickstarter for Shenmue III came to a close, becoming the most successful funded game in the history of the organization, passing its original $2 million goal with $6.3 million dollars with over 69, 320 backers. Plans however to continue funding the game were announced by Yu Suzuki live on Twitch, were the team will start a Paypal campaign for fans.
The Team Yu website posted details on the information as well as several links, where backers of the game can follow to learn more information on when the Paypal donations can begin. Suzuki stated during his announcement on Twitch that thanks to all the support, “Shenmue III will be open-world game that is beyond the scope the team had envisioned.”
Its great news that after so many years that a sequel to such a beloved series will be made possible thanks to Kickstarter and in part to Sony’s announcement during their E3 2015 conference. The support for the title has been unbelievable and even I didn’t think it would be possible. Numerous stretch goals have been reached, including physical copies for the PS4, though its still unclear how long the game will be released. We can only hope soon.
